Save Water? No Fucking Way!

I just received my water bill for this quarter. $306
The amount of this that is actually showing water usage is $51
Sewerage charge is $51
Water supply system charge is $30
Sewerage system charge is $81
Water and drainage charge $21
Annual Parks charge $67

Now if I'm stupid enough to think I can reduce my water bill by using less water,
how much would I save if I used 10% less water?
$5
Oh, I would also save $5 on the sewerage charge which is geared to my water charge since there is no meter to record how much sewerage I generate.
Wow, that's reassuring isn't it?

Water Restrictions...WTF?

It seems ironic that two days after this news item appeared, our current water crisis turned from not enough water to too much water.
From the 26th February news report.

"Craig Pearson, of the Sustainable Society Institute at the University of Melbourne, said the increase showed the government's decision to ease water restrictions from stage 2 to stage 1 had been a mistake."

If anything exemplifies my disdain, my contempt of experts then it must be this juxtaposition between the above statement and the current flood crisis engulfing northern Victoria and NSW. 


Excuse me for jumping to the conclusion that experts are short sighted. Maybe we should question our experts level of understanding of the Australian climate because it should be apparent even to someone as unexpert as myself that Australia is a land of extremes which alternate as predictably as night follows day and that flood follows drought. 
As an unexpert, I've been saying this on this blog for years if anybody cares to check.


My heartfelt sympathy to those victims of Australia's cruel and merciless climate.

"Hundreds more people were evacuated on Wednesday in Australia's flood-hit southeast, as residents of the city of Wagga Wagga breathed a sigh of relief after a levee on the Murrumbidgee River held firm."

What really riles me is the obvious inability of government to formulate a workable policy that realistically deals with our unique Australian climate. We are lumbered with white elephant, a desalination plant in Victoria that will probably rarely operate to provide water or will operate despite the obvious oversupply we are experiencing at the moment.
