They are all showing the pointer. Not the finger which says "fuck you"...Neither is the those two fingers which signals that you are a soldier of Satan...
They show the finger of education.
This is the finger you use when you want to silent someone by saying "husssj". This is the finger you use when you want to bring others attention to something in particular (at a sertain place, you point to the place. If you want them to listen, you point to your ear, if you want them to read a special paragraf, you point at the paragraf in the script etc.)This is the finger of attention, if you are in a group of people, you rais your finger to acknowledge that you have something to say. As well do you rais this finger when you want to be heard.

That's interesting, I figured it was a common gesture/body language in the ME but kirsten confirmed it's meaning.

It's just considered rude over here!

BTW, the middle finger doesn't imply "fuck you" as much as it implies "up your arse" and if you've ever had that unpleasant experience you'll know exactly what I mean. Then there's the two finger salute (pinky and forefinger) that implies cuckold, not a very flattering salute. The two finger salute (V) held upright implies victory, whereas lifting the V salute does imply fuck you. If you're in Australia, the forefinger rubbing the side of the nose is a request to have sex. The forefinger touching the lips is indeed the shoosh sign. The forefinger circling repeatedly the side of the head implies insanity. The tip of the forefinger inserted in the mouth by a sultry young woman would make any male cream his pants.
