Dr Elizabeth Blackburn Elizabeth Blackburn was born in Australia and went on to gain her M.Sc. at the University of Melbourne. She later went on to study at Cambridge and Yale and is currently Professor of Biology and Physiology at the University of California. In 1998 she was the winner of The Australia Prize for her work in molecular genetics.
Australian women are outstanding achievers, even when they are not winning olympic medals.
Because Australians are obsessed with sport, we tend to overlook the achievements of anyone not related to sport.
