Firefox and Windows Media Player

I've been using Firefox for years now. It's always irked me (up till now) that MS Media Player can't be used with Firefox. Yes, I can start up IE, but I don't like to, Explorer is slow and it's just plain inconvenient.
Anyway, I did a google search and found out that I needed to download and install three files.
Once I installed them in the correct directory, where MS Media Player resides, everything works perfectly.
I wonder if anyone else has suffered the same problem.
