I am a tinkerer

My wife says I "fiddle" with things. It would be more apt to say I tinker with things. That is, I'm not quite in the class of inventor but I do modify things to improve on them. I like the challenge, its a puzzle that needs to be solved once the problem is identified.

"Tinkerer" (from Wikipedia)
(also known as the Terrible Tinkerer) is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe with an almost superhuman gift of genius in engineering, able to invent sophisticated gadgets from nothing more than spare parts left over from ordinary household appliances. He is the third biggest weapon provider of the gangland (after Justin Hammer and Madame Menace). He has equal abilities to the Fixer.

Here are examples of my crazy creativity in solving everyday problems.

Problem: automatic pool vacuumer has a long hose that tends to get tangled up within itself
Solution: suspend middle length of hose with polystyrene balls.

Problem: a heavy lid that I made to cover the pool filter needs to stay upright while I'm doing service to the filter.
Solution: take two scissor brackets from a folding workbench and attach them to each side of the cover to hold up when it is open.

Problem: ladder never stands on even surfaces causing wobbles. I have a morbid fear of falling off a wobbly ladder.
Solution: take two threaded adjustable feet and fix at foot of ladder. Threaded gadget allows you to adjust one side out of three of ladder that doesn't touch ground to compensate for uneven surfaces.

Problem
: computer speakers not up to standard. Have tried cheap PC speakers and found them wanting. Didn't want to spend a fortune on better quality PC speakers.
Solution: connect PC audio output to amplifier and listen through NAD amp and ALR Jordan tower speakers.

Problem: screen door hydraulic device doesn't hold door open. Necessary when carrying shopping into house.
Solution: fasten outer side of door to hook attached to octopus cable on hook on wall to hold it open.

Problem: want to mount flag on side of house roof. Did not want to use regular flagpole that rises from the ground.
Solution: use fishing pole mount screwed to side of house to achor pole with flag.

If I'm not gardening on the weekend, then I'm tinkering with something.

I think I'm in love with you.

hahaha

We tinker all the time too. It's a gift I think. I feel sorry for all the stupid people who can't think up any sensible solutions to simple problems.

(You know those over the door Christmas wreath hangers? I invented one many years before they were mass produced but mine is virtually invisible because I only use a thin wire)
