al-Qa'ida and the Hydra

I have too much spare time on my hands.Hence this over emphasis on this subject.
Reading this story about al-Qa'ida in disarray brought to mind the ancient Greek myth of the Hydra, the multi-headed serpent monster that lives in a cave. I leave it to the reader to make the link between the two.

The story concentrates on the rift between the two main branches of Islam, Sunni and Shia.
I, on the other hand want to emphasize the similarity between the Hydra and the multi-headed monster known as radical Islam.
In the myth, the Hydra is hard to destroy because it has many heads. Chop off one head doesn't kill the beast. This is a useful metaphor to remember when considering the enemy we are up against.
Unlike the myth, there is no equivalent today of the hero Heracles.
