Peace Loving Muslims

I've often wondered what percentage of the Muslim community is in fact "peace loving". This idea being the strongest argument against anybody who dares to voice the opinion that Islam is a violent religion. I stumbled across this poll of Indonesian muslims. After reading this poll, I think it's very hard for anyone to castigate me when I refer to muslims as violent because 10% (as shown in this poll) support violent jihad. That's about 200,000 people. I wouldn't call that a small insignificant group. I would like to see a similar poll of muslims in the middle east. Maybe also a poll of muslims living in western countries. If the new statistics are anything like what is shown in Indonesia, then we truly do have something to worry about.

You know...it's two ways of saying things...
a)Correct wrongdoing with violence
b) Make peace through war

Personally, I don't believe in either of them. I was never beaten as a child, I never beat my children...I believe in correct and informative conversation and to meet halfway in a matter of disagreement.
Both as a mother, politician, lawyer, legal advisor and as a teacher, It has always been important for me to tell WHY things has to be sertain way or WHY it can not be done it sertain ways. The answer on ~ WHY ~ is very important.

I actually agree with Kirsten about the futility of war or violence as a solution.

What we need is some good old fashioned racism. If Muslims accept violence; instead of confronting them we need to allow them to do what they want to do away from those who do not desire violence.

Deportation from Western countries, racial profiling, etc. would probably do the trick without killing anyone. Once they decide they can live, allowing others to live according to personal belief, in peace then we can talk about opening back up to them.

I see them as the anti-abortion activists who find it acceptable to kill doctors who perform and women who have abortions. We prosecute them and defend the victim's rights as defined by our law (without taking a position on abortion).

I really do not care about their perceived injustices, life is tough, it is not fair, you are not the center of the universe. You believe in the Holy War, ok, do it at home, kill your brothers, your fathers, your children, but stay away from the rest of us.

BTW - dear lawyer you should have the cultural experience to know that religious wars are always the result of an individual's desire for power and have nothing to do with religious beliefs.

TI,my thoughts exactly.
I think it's becoming more apparent as we get a better understanding of the "problem", that you cannot fight this particular war with guns. You can't legislate against thought crimes - bad intentions, hate, intolerance, bias etc.
So in fact, we are faced with an ideological war. We need new strategies, different weapons, different policies to fight a poisonous ideology. If Islam is not the problem, then the problem exists within Islam. Lets not beat around the bush or bury our heads in the sand.

Aaron, thanks for the stats. Of course you're right. Now I'm really scared. You know 18.7m is is about the population of Australia (not counting the muslims of course)
Every now and then, I see someone in a black burqa and I shit myself.
