Speed Cameras

This headline caught my attention.
"Axeman attacks speed camera operator."

This is only the second reported incident of a motorist losing it when it comes to speed cameras.
I'm surprised it hasn't happened earlier or more often.

I must confess the idea has gone through my mind many times but I'm not that kind of guy.

People aren't stupid therefore the Government's justification for speed cameras doesn't ring of truth. Everybody knows it's just a cynical raising operation for the government. The message "Speed Kills" isn't based on facts but unfounded assumptions which are refuted by experts. It's a poor justification for penalizing motorists who exceed the speed limit by 1 or 2 km per hour. No car has a speedometer that reads calibrations of speed to that degree of accuracy. The government doesn't care. It's just too much easy money for them.

Speed cameras aren't hard to spot, they are usually parked on the left hand side of the road and catch vehicles travelling past them rather than coming from the opposite direction.
There was a scandal that found the accuracy of these speed cameras to be highly unreliable and they were off action for about 12 months until the bugs were sorted out. This was only discovered when a motorist challenged the fine, the accused speed being impossible for the car that was photographed and fined.
Speed cameras are always on a straight stretch of road, preferably at quiet times of the day when motorists would be tempted to drive a little faster than normal.
I make a habit of keeping an eye out for them and always spot them before they can surprise me.

The funniest episode was when a motorist parked his car in front of a speed camera which caused a great deal of anger from the speed camera operator. Watching the altercation as I drove past caused me to smile all the way home.

Radar detection devices are illegal in this country, just as well because they might affect the governments revenue source.

I got caught by a speed camera once. Early on in its life. They pulled them not so much later. I get caught by radar every once in a while. I hate radar.

I prefer a speed camera to a pissed off cop pulling people over and hassling them with their overlord tactics.
