Chinese Pride

The sensitivity to criticism, any criticism must be understood in terms of pride, or in other words loss of face. This is a Chinese cultural aspect more than merely a characteristic of communism.
So, we have another example of how the Chinese, collectively (under instruction from government) or individually attempt to deal with a threat to pride.
The Melbourne film festival web site has been hacked and sabotaged. Why? Because somebody
dared to screen films that were critical of Chinese government.

CHINESE hackers have attacked the Melbourne International Film Festival website in an intensifying campaign against the screening of a documentary about exiled Uighur leader Rebiya Kadeer...
The hackers replaced festival information with the Chinese flag and anti-Kadeer slogans and were last night continuing to disrupt the site by spamming

"We like film but we hate Rebiya Kadeer," one message says and calls for an apology to the Chinese people.

Festival director Richard Moore said staff had been bombarded with abusive emails since it was disclosed that the festival had rejected Chinese Government demands to withdraw the film about Ms Kadeer, The 10 Conditions of Love, and cancel her invitation to the festival.

What do the Chinese have against the Uighur? Other than the fact that they are Muslim, I do not know.
You might think it strange that I would defend Muslims, but in fact I am not a hate monger.
I just wince at the Chinese attempt to stifle free speech.

How a nation deals with dissent is very telling about the fundamental character of the people responsible for administering her policies... and in this case, their tyrannical totalitarianism shines through.

Chinese government is in dire need of some real reform. The Chinese people should be both embarrassed and ashamed. Embarrassed that their leaders are proven such ignorant thugs, and ashamed that they haven't the will to correct/ remedy that situation.
