Unveiling the Truth

"A MUSLIM woman wore her face veil out of cultural preference, not religious obligation, a Perth court heard yesterday."

I find it intriguing to read that there is a public discussion regarding whether a Muslim woman should or should not wear the nikab in a court of law when giving evidence.

According to this woman's cultural preferences. It is interesting to note her emphasis on this point because she is well aware that if she claimed religious rights then the court is obliged to take into account that her testimony is worth only half of a man's.
Whether this means that we should only believe half of what she says or if only half of what she testifies is in fact the truth I cannot determine. And so she claims a cultural right to wear the nikab
This woman is also aware that nowhere in the holy book the Qur'an is it specified that a woman should wear the nikab
Of course it depends on the situation whether a Muslim woman would claim it is her religious obligation to wear a nikab or it is her cultural preference.
This ruling comes from the Qur'an, the holy book of Muslims. There is no higher authority for Muslims. No man made laws are equal or above those of the Qur'an.

A woman's legal testimony is worth half of a man's, (only except in the event that she is accused of adultery).
Qur'an- 2:282 "...and call in to witness two witnesses, men; or if the two be not men, then one man and two women, such witness as you approve of, that if one women errs the other will remind her."

So, the real question is whether this woman's testimony should even be considered in court rather than whether she should or should not wear a nikab in court.

I think they all need a slap upside the head. How the heck do you accommodate antiquated thinking in a modern world? They should not be permitted period. The judge and jurors are entitled to see expressions and body language and not just hear the words.
