Congratulations are in order to Germany, specifically Chancellor Angela Merkel who has stated that "the countries "multicultural" approach to social cohesion has been an abysmal failure."
It is a brave politician who will stand up and speak the truth especially when the truth goes against the conventional wisdom and preconceived ideas and prejudices of politically correct thought.
There is no doubt in my mind that there is a growing trend in Europe to shed the shackles of ideas that just don't work in the real world. This news item follows the developments in the Netherlands where Muslims are being singled out as well as in France where Muslims are being singled out for wearing burqas....
Meanwhile, locally is the news that Muslims have been granted an exception from the anti-discrimination legislation (probably put in place to protect Muslims - see the irony?) so that Muslim women can have exclusive access to public swimming pool to accommodate their religious beliefs.
But then it's no surprise that Australia has always been one step behind (my wife prefers to say 50 years behind Europe-she's from Europe) the rest of the world.

Sadly, we are not paying attention to the mistakes that Europe have made in terms of multiculturalism...
Multi-culturalism was a valid social goal when culture was largely nationalism - accepting different Europeans with similar values - but doesn't hang together too well when opposing values emerge. There has to be boundaries or the structures of society cease to exist.
Lexcen,
I'm glad she has the courage to admit this.
