Botanical gardens

I have just spent a day at Melbourne's Royal Botanical gardens. I am convinced that we have one of the most magnificent botanical gardens in the world.

Look at this example of the Xanthorrea glauca, it is huge and undoubtedly hundreds of years old.
To get a full idea of the size, double click pic and look at the bench on the right hand side. You can see a pic of my own Xanthorrea on my garden blog.

I have a fascination with palms, cycads, cacti and succulents. There was a profusion of inflorescence
amongst the palms.
The cycad cones were bursting with seeds, which gave me opportunity to harvest a few and I will attempt to germinate them.
