Fatwa against Suicide Bombers

I've always held the opinion that one of the shortcomings of Islam is that it doesn't have a recognized leader in the way that the Catholic Church for example has the Pope.
This lack of hierarchy in authority means that just about anybody with charisma can make themselves a spokesman for Islam and inevitably we have had to endure Osama Bin Laden taking on this role in the cause of returning the Caliphate to prominence. We still bear the legacy of that insanity everyday as our civil freedoms are reduced in the attempt to make life safe in our cities.
Haj Amin Al-Husseini, mufti of Jerusalem aligned himself with the policies and ideology of Hitler during WW11 and the legacy of that decision is that today Muslim children are fed a relentless diet of hate against the Jews.
The madman Gaddifi this week declared jihad against Switzerland for banning the building of minarets...
In fact any madman can declare jihad and thousands of faithful will hear the call and take up arms.
This is the problem and to read that an Imam has actually spoken out against suicide bombers is indeed news to crow about.
A prominent Muslim organization in Britain has issued a fatwa on suicide bombings and terrorism — declaring them “un-Islamic”.
Minhaj-ul-Quran, a organisation based on Sufi principles which advises the Government on how to combat radicalisation in Muslim youth, launched its 600-page religious verdict in Central London this morning, condemning the perpetrators of terrorist explosions and suicide bombings.
The fatwa condemns suicide bombers saying that they are destined for Hell, countering extremist propaganda that Islamist terrorists will enter paradise after death.
The document is written by Muslim scholar Dr Muhammed Tahir ul-Qadri, a former government adviser in Pakistan and friend of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and the founder of the increasingly influential Minhaj-ul-Quran movement.

Sounds like a bit of good news. Hopefully the guy won't be assassinated.

Too bad even moderate Muslims (aka extremists that haven't blown themselves up yet) view Sufism as a sort of apostasy, if not outright heresy.

I know it's unfortunate that Sufism isn't mainstream Islam.

Well, you know what they say.

"Islam is a religion of peace and we'll kill you if you say otherwise."
