Human Rights

The notion that all human beings are equal is enshrined in the idea of Human Rights. We are all entitled to the same rights no matter which country we live in. It's in the UN Charter of Human Rights.

I find this subject fascinating because it seems that we are all equal but some are more equal than others, to borrow a phrase from George Orwell's Animal Farm.
To be more specific, some countries adhere to the human rights principle more than others. So if you are smart, then you will stay away from those countries that don't honor human rights and do you best to get to countries that do value human rights.

For example, if you are a traveller/gypsy/Roma person, you would do very well to go to the UK where Travellers human rights are enshrined in law. In Spain Travellers are integrated into the community whilst in France, they are put on a plane and sent back to Romania.

Here's another example of the inequality of human rights. If you are a refugee and manage to get to Australia, you will probably be incarcerated in a compound until the authorities establish who the fuck you are, considering that documents and passports have been deliberately destroyed and an assumed identity and nationality is claimed. But don't despair, because in Australia, many refugees have been granted compensation for emotional and other damages to the tune of $100000 each. Not bad is it?
Try that for example in China, or Zimbabwe or any number of other nations that don't quite adhere to the notion of human rights as they should.

Of course human rights don't extend to everybody in Australia, because even here not everybody is equal. In the case of the unfortunate person who was injured in a car accident when a child and consequently is condemned to the life of a quadraplegic, the grand sum of $300000 dollars is his compensation.

Equal rights indeed.

Take a look at Rob HILLS' charter of human rights to see how ludicrous the whole concept it is!
