Is Terry Jones a crackpot?

Hate pastor Terry Jones had attracted worldwide condemnation for his sick bid to torch the Muslim holy book to mark the anniversary of the 9/11 Twin Towers attack

It's hard to believe that what was once the most powerful nation in the world is now afraid to offend any Muslims by any word, deed or gesture to commemorate the crime committed on this day.

I think it is a pointless gesture to burn the Koran but then why condemn the man for his opinion?
There is much reference to Terry Jones as a "crackpot". I'm not sure why he is referred to that way.

In fact I can think of many examples religious crackpots in America today. Those who claim to speak in tongues; those who handle snakes as proof of their faith in God and those who deny the theory of evolution and prefer to believe in Intelligent Design. What about those who believe in Scientology?
Those who claim the end is nigh, the Jehova's Witnesses, there isn't any shortage of crackpots in the world today so why single out Terry Jones who has a reasonable concern about the very real threat Islam is to America?

America boasts that there is freedom of religion embedded in it's constitution. I wonder how that freedom fits in with religious beliefs that put their religion above the authority of the government, above the laws made by government and by implication, above the American Constitution and all it stands for?

Maybe todays generation of youth cannot remember how the Soviet Union had a very effective means of dealing with dissidents, it classified them as crackpots and locked them up in mental institutions.

So much for freedom of thought and freedom of speech.

Hehe...Nice touch with the Youtube clip Lexcen!

This Koean burning story is nothing more than a Leftist beat up in order to distract from the real issue...The November elections. That's my opinion!
